22/02/2012 - POS Terminal is just a PC Right?....

Hopefully by now you are all well aware that a POS Terminal is not just a cash register, but a fully-fledged PC with touchscreen capabilities. Using a PC as a Touchscreen POS Terminal is not ideal, but it can be done. The same can be said for using a Touchscreen POS Terminal as a PC. It will do the job, but not nearly as good as a machine built for that purpose will do.

When you have a POS Terminal that is powerful enough to do all of these things, it is easy to install a lot of different programs and forget that it is a POS Terminal. Problems arise when the POS Terminal needs to be taken away for repair, and you have business and personal data saved on it. A lot of times when a terminal needs to be repaired we may need to re-image it. This process deletes all data on the terminal and reinstalls it back to a factory state. If you keep programs like MS Office, iTunes and others on your POS Terminal, these programs and all associated files will be deleted.

We recommend that if you are using your POS Terminal as a PC, to backup all your programs and files regularly, along with your POS backups and store them on an external HDD. They can be purchased quiet cheaply with very large storage capacity.

It is also a very good idea to use a UPS on your POS Terminals, as they provide additional safety and prevent catastrophes in most circumstances.

20/02/2012 - New Blackboard Feature in IdealPOS

The Blackboard allows for people who use the Home Screen to see a Blackboard to the left of the Clerk Login Number pad. Customers who don’t use the Home Screen can create a button where a simple push can display the Blackboard on screen.

The Blackboard can be used to display any specials from the menu, or a list of jobs that must be completed at the end of the day. You can edit the text that displays easily from the POS Screen, provided you have the correct permissions. The text will always be white on a black background, but you can adjust the size and font that will be displayed.

04/01/2012 - Difference between Markup and Margin

Many business owners assume that Markup and Margin have the same meaning and are therefore, the same value. Unfortunately this is not the case, with a very substantial difference between the two and the way they are calculated, which is generally by applying a percentage to both figures. An important thing to note is that the Markup and Margin in Dollar terms will always be the same, in our example $2.

An example of this in action is a restaurant that sells a bottled beer for $6. The cost of the beer is $4 so theMarkup on the beer has been 50%. Many people wrongly assume then that the profit is also 50%, but this isn’t the case. To work out the Margin we need to apply the following formula:

(Total Sales – Cost )/Total Sales*100% = Profit Margin % .

(6-4)/4*100=33.333333 or 33%.

As you can see, our Markup is 50% and our Margin is only 33%.

If the business owner did not know these calculations, imagine the disaster when they try and add up their finances. They buy their beer for $4 and add a 50% Markup to sell at $6. Once the beer is sold, they take what they think is their Profit of 50% of $3.

That is why Ideal POS uses Profit Margins to calculate your prices.

From 1st July 2011, upgrades from Ideal POS System 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 5.5 will be chargeable

Many of you have taken advantage of our free upgrade offer to version 6 which was advertised via our newsletter, and we thank you for making the effort to get your business current version of software. Providing technical support on old versions of software can be very difficult for both you and our support guys. Please be aware that if you do contact our office for technical support on these older versions, we will have to charge for our support time, especially if we have already addressed the problem in the current version. We would first ask that you upgrade to the current version so that we are able to offer you a more efficient level of service.

01/01/2011 - Paid Support Starts

We at MCR have tried long and hard to wear the cost of free support on all our products.

Declining margins, increasing costs and extra staff required along with the abuse of this policy, it is no longer sustainable.

To ensure we are able to continue to provide a timely, quality service, free support will no longer be provided and we have no option other than to charge for all support up front with immediate effect. Support contracts are also available with lots of benefits over standard support.

An internet connection is mandatory for all software support.

We will endeavour to keep these charges to a minimum.

We thank you for your understanding on this matter and look
forward to assisting you further.

MCR Customers can use the FREE Ticket system on our
cashregister.com.au & pospower.com.au websites for an emailed
support response.

You can also request a service ticket for a technician to contact you if you issue is relating to a hardware fault.
