What is a PC-based cash register?
A PC-based cash register runs off of a computer. At each POS station you need a PC. All the peripherals (receipt printer, cash drawer, barcode scanner, etc.) plug into the back of the computer. You can use a normal computer monitor for the application although we recommend a Touch screen to get the most out of the software. The most important part of the register is the software. It is the software that controls inventory, rings up sales, and tells the hardware what to do.
What about those "All-in-ones" POS Terminals?
We at Metropolitan Cash Register Co make a conscious effort to sell only those
machines that have proven themselves out in the field. These machines have quick and easy field service access to access faulty components. On-site Warranty is also available. With a component based POS system, if one piece goes bad, you just swap that one out but you can still use your register. We combine the best POS peripherals to get you the best register.
How does Ideal POS Software compare with Quickbooks/MYOB POS?
We do not like to bad-mouth our competitors but would be doing a disservice if we didn't point you to the following customer reviews on CNET.com - Click Here
Do I get any free support with
a purchase of Ideal POS Software?
You get three months of FREE technical support when you buy a license. This includes any upgrades that come out during that time. You can reach tech support through phone, email, instant message and fax.
What is the difference between a dot-matrix and thermal printer?
The difference lies mainly in speed and noise. Dot-matrix technology prints using a print head that hits the paper directly with a ribbon. You will hear it. A popular dot-matrix printer is the Epson TM-U220. You will need to replace the ribbons every once in a while. Thermal printers print using heat so do not need ribbons. The result is extremely quiet and lightning fast printing. The paper is a bit more expensive but you don't have to buy ribbons. Our favorite thermal printer is the Epson TM-T88
or equivalent.

How many years has MCR been around?
MCR has been saving time and money for hundreds of businesses since 1975. We

business including backup and service.
What about products with no barcodes?
This is not a problem with Ideal POS. There are several ways to sell your items that do not come with manufacturers' barcodes. 1) You can print your own barcodes using
Avery Design Pro which integrates with Ideal POS, 2) You can just enter an easy to remember item number or description instead of scanning a barcode, just like they do in the supermarkets for produce, or 3) You can utilize
Ideal POS fully configurable buttons. This allows you to create a button on the main invoice screen that represents the item without a barcode. You may then click the button with a mouse or even easier, touch it (if you have a
touch screen, that is).
